Excessive perspiration

|
This is also called profuse sweating and affect 1-3% of the general population.Excessive perspiration causesSweating is good for you, it is the main mechanism your body uses to control the temperature and maintain a constant level. You will sweat when it is hot, when you perform heavy physical tasks or when you have a temperature. The body will simply cool itself down to normal by hand sweating and other perspiration. So sweating is a completely natural function of your body, although excessive perspiration is not. There is a massive 5 million sweat glands in your body, most of them (two thirds) located in your hands (palms) which is of course why sweaty hands or palms are very common. These glands are all controlled by the vegetative (sympathetic) nervous system which is the mastermind behind the body temperature control. Profuse sweating can also have more normal causes like alcohol, spicy food but then it is not a recurring problem of chronic excessive perspiration (hyperhydrosis) - assuming of course you don't always have hot food and alcohol. Hyperhydrosis - primary or secondary hyperhidrosisHyperhydrosis caused by another disorder is called secondary hyperhidrosis. If the excessive perspiration is not connected to any other disease or condition, it is called primary hyperhidrosis and although it affects around 2.5% of the general population, less than half of the affected actually seek medical advice. Profuse sweating seem to run within the family which may indicate genetical or hereditary causes but science has not yet found a satisfactory explanation to the excessive sweating disorder. |
