Hyperhydrosis botox injections

Hyperhidrosis botox (botulinum toxin) injections is the latest of the treatments for hyperhydrosis. The botulinum toxin is produced by clostridium botulinum, one of the most lethal toxins known. It will interfere with acethylcholine, which is the transmitting substance at the nerve endings (synapses) where the next nerve cell, or a muscle, connects. If this substance is prevented from being released, there will be no stimulation of the sweat glands and the result is - no sweat.

Injections of Botox against profuse sweating (hyperhydrosis) must be very low dose and always local, focusing on typically the underarm area. Hyperhidrosis Botox treatment will last around 6-8 months during which time the patient will be dry of sweat in the treated region but the rest of the body will have normal (or maybe excessive if that was the case) sweating. The downside to using Botox for hyperhidrosis treatment is that it is quite expensive, botox cost can be prohibitive.

Controlling the botox injections

It is a very sensitive job to do the hyperhidrosis Botox injections. It is important that the doctor makes sure the needle goes deep enough to reach the nerve endings - but not too deeply which would inject Botox into the fat underneath instead of in the nerve endings region.

The area in target is called the hyperhydrotic area and it is possible to test the effectiveness of the hyperhydrosis botox injection with an iodine test (similar to a tuberculin test)
