Hyperhydrosis (profuse sweating) treatmentBefore starting a hyperhidrosis treatment, it is imporant to determine whether there is a primary disorder causing the hyperhydrosis or not. The best way to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is to treat the underlying cause, if it's known. For instance, hormone treatments for menopause may reduce the condition. Injections of minute amounts of botulinum toxin, or Botox, are used to treat some cases of excessive sweating. Excessive perspiration (profuse sweating) can be treated with homeopathy, Silicea 1M is one product known to work as a relief. Anticholinergic hyperhidrosis drugsAnticholinergic drugs can be used for short term hyperhidrosis treatment in severe cases but there are known side effects, primarily a certain amount of drowsiness, dry mouth and some constipation. Drionic iontophoresis hyperhydrosis treatmentAnother method is known as drionic iontophoresis. That is to use electric current from a battery powered device, in the axillary (armpit) area for half an hour a day initially, then gradually extending the time span up to a week or two. Using a Drionic iontophoresis electrical device is quite effective in plugging up the sweat pores and curing sweaty armpits (profuse sweating). The cost of a Drionic device is around $150. Apply to the affected area (palms, feet or armpits) and you will feel a tickling sensation that some find unpleasant. After you have used this several times around half an hour a day, you will experience less profuse sweating for up to 4-6 weeks. Psychotherapy used against excessive sweatingPsychotherapy can be used to treat hyperhydrosis but will only be effective against secondary hyperhidrosis where the primary cause is something that psychotherapy can treat. For primary hyperhidrosis, it has been shown that psychotherapy is not a functioning treatment. Profuse sweating surgeryProfuse sweating surgery can be used for the really extreme cases. Surgery is done by either removing the sweat glands from your underarms, or by cutting the nerves that trigger the palmar sweat glands. |
