Hyperhydrosis explainedHyperhidrosis, or hyperhydrosis as the excessive sweating disorder is called in medical terms is a mystery to medical science. Although we do understand the secondary version of the disease - where the profuse sweating is caused by some other disease as a side effect - we don't know for sure how primary hyperhidrosis (not related to other diseases) is caused. There are some studies pointing towards excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) being hereditary but no conclusive evidence has been presented to support that. Profuse sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a socially very embarrasing disorder. Having sweaty palms (hands) or severe facial sweating is very awkward in the normal social life - although the hyperhydrosis disease as such is not dangerous, it will not progress and it is not contagious. Profuse (excessive) sweating disorder (hyperhidrosis) is when the normal body function of sweating goes out of control. For primary hyperhydrosis - there is no apparent reason, and for secondary hyperhidrosis, the disease depends on (is triggered by) some other disease. We understand the secondary hyperhidrosis better as we can treat the triggering diseases. Cures of hyperhydrosis include surgery, aluminium chloride deodorants, botox injections. |
